Aptly named crc@my, the first e-newsletter issue of the Clinical Research Centre, Ministry of Health, Malaysia will primarily feature Malaysian clinical research news, updates and events. We will also cover international research-related highlights, with sections on latest regional and global releases. crc@my will be a regular feature, with issues every two months. RCSI Honorary Fellowship for the Director General of Health Malaysia 

YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Dr Hj Mohd Ismail Merican, the Director General of Health Malaysia, who is also a world renowned hepatologist was recently awarded with an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. As Director General of Health, Tan Sri has been instrumental in many health- and medical-related initiatives. One of Tan Sri’s contributions is to promote medical research in Malaysia, a vision he has undeniably materialized through the setting up of a network of clinical research centres across the nation within a short span of 10 years.

Malaysian Psoriasis Registry – Preliminary report of a pilot study using a newly revised registry form

Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory disease affecting the skin, nails and joints with significant physical, psychosocial and economic impact. It has been a worldwide effort to obtain comprehensive epidemiological and clinical data on psoriasis in different populations1,2,3,4. All Research in MOH to be Registered in the National Medical Research Register (NMRR) 

 

In Malaysia, the National Medical Research Register (NMRR) enables online registration in line with international practice requiring medical research, especially clinical trial, to be registered in publicly accessible research registers.

CRC Reaches across Borders

Dr Lim Teck Onn was invited to address more than 30 healthcare professionals during a workshop in Brunei, which was held in conjunction with the launch of the country’s Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. In his talk, “Clinical Research – What it takes to make it happen”, Dr Lim highlighted the key factors involved in a successful clinical research. He stressed the importance of strong leadership, staying focused on research objectives, adequate time and funding and collaborative spirit. Dr Lim also mentioned the need for those interested in this field to undergo training and to maximize the use of technology in research processes. . click here for more details

 

Develop new knowledge call from retiring Deputy Director-General

Research is about developing new knowledge and the National Institutes of Health Malaysia (NIH) needs to rise to the challenge by filling in the gaps of health information says retiring Deputy Director-General of Health (Research and Technical Support) Datuk Ir. Dr. M.S. Pillay. Speaking before a crowded auditorium of the Institute of Health Management on a hilltop in Bangsar, he said: “NIH is growing in importance and must stand tall in research, and not just because you are situated on hill. “In terms of stature and prominence in health research, the NIH has the potential to be the centre of excellence for the entire Asean region,” he stressed. click here for details

 

Visiting Bangladeshi senior health officials

On 7 and 8th July 2008, CRC had the pleasure of playing host to two distinguished guests from Bangladesh; Prof Dr Hosne Ara tahmin, the Additional Director General of Health (admin) and Dr Nazneen Anwar, the deputy program manager (research and development) from the Ministry of Health Bangladesh. The main CRC organizer for this visit was Dr Jeyashree Jacob, from CEU.
